Google Picasa Blogging

This is a photo of my Dad when he was an early teenager. If you have not started blogging with Google's Picasa, you are missing out (I think). ;-) Anyway, down load this neat software and give it a try! It may be a nice enhancement to your web site!

PHP content management system (CMS)

I just put together a very basic PHP-based content management system (CMS) for a client. It has one level of password protection. And allows you to enter a news item (only one item) per section on a web page. Each update replaces the other one.

This is easy to configure, easy to maintain, and is free (except for your time, of course). If you are interested in learning more about how this can help your web site, just let me know.

Are you podcasting yet?

Some of you are aware of podcasting already, but most of you are not. Podcasting, among other things, is a great way to get your audio message out to the world. You can schedule regular podcasts to be delivered to your computer via Itunes and, if you have an iPod, you can take your podcasts with you. Let me know what your web site plans are.

Generate your own RSS feeds!

Here is a simple (well, reasonable anyway) program you can use to create your own RSS feeds on your web site for others to tap into. It comes from Software Garden and you can find them at: http://www.softwaregarden.com/. The program is called Listgarden and you can pretty easily create RSS feeds, publish via FTP, and even create an HTML version of the content. If you have wanted to do RSS as part of your web site development effort and have not yet figured out how, this is a great place to start.

Put a Keyword List on every page

Another great tip to help you with keywords on your web site is to put a line at the bottom of each page in a small font that simply says: "Relevant keywords: keyword 1, keyword 2, etc." This will help you keep track of your keyword emphasis on each web page and also will put those keywords on the page one more time.

Build link relationships today!

To improve your web site rankings on search engines, be sure to develop link relationships with others who offer a similar, but non-competing service. The more relevant the subject matter in the two linked sites, the more likely it is that the search engines will give you ranking points. It takes time, but it is most definitely worth the effort!

Long-term domain ownership

When you lease a domain name, you should buy the maximum number of years possible. Search engines consider this when they spider your site. A domain name leased for only a year or two is considered to be less "stable" than one leased for 10 years. If you do decide to lengthen your lease term, check out www.godaddy.com. They are reputable, big, and a great value!
